Former NYC Schoolteacher Gives Back:

Author Donates His Teen Self-Empowerment Books to School he Co-founded

New York, New York – December, 24 2015 – Holiday seasons are times to give as well as receive. On January 5, 2016, Agyei Tyehimba – educator, author and activist from Harlem – will embody that message. Tyehimba will donate 25 copies of his book , Truth for our Youth: A Self-Empowerment Book for Teens to 8th-grade students at KAPPA Middle School 215 located at 3630 Third Avenue in the Bronx. But that’s not all. Tyehimba, a former NYC public schoolteacher, actually helped to create the middle school 15-years ago.

His book, Truth for our Youth addresses the topics of self-love, peer pressure, time management, making decisions, choosing friends, life traps to avoid, and other relevant topics for adolescents. The book retails for $14.95 and is available at Amazon. Tyehimba wrote the book to provide clarity and direction for adolescents, who often struggle with issues of identity, confidence and decision-making. “My family provided me with the information and guidance I needed to safely navigate life as a teenager in Harlem. Many youth today do not have strong support systems. I wrote this book to expose youth and families today to the same habits, information, and attitudes that have empowered me. The goal is for them to become leaders, problem-solvers and productive citizens.”

On January 5th at 9:15 am, Tyehimba will speak to the 8th grade students at KAPPA M.S. 215 after donating copies of his book. “The mission is still the same,” says Tyehimba. “I once helped start a school with classrooms. Writing and publishing books allows me to create a school without walls.”

Agyei Tyehimba is a public speaker, Essence Bestselling author and activist from Harlem. He serves as the National Director of Education for “Souljahs of the People,” a grassroots social justice organization. In addition to writing four books, he also teaches community groups and college students how to organize and lead effectively. He writes a popular blog at mytruesense.org which has readers in over 180 countries, and has appeared on CSpan, NY1 News, Huff Post Live, and the A&E Channel.
