Assata Shakur, The VICTIM of Terrorism!

Domestic Terrorism (as defined in the Patriot Act): “(A) involves acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; (B) appear to be intended— (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.”

The FBI would have us believe that 65 year-old political activist Assata Shakur is in their words, ““A domestic terrorist who murdered a law enforcement officer execution-style.” Curiously, the FBI provided no evidence to support this claim, other than to note that Shakur proclaims “radical, anti-U.S. government views.” Therefore, Shakur faces prosecution and a FBI womanhunt because of her political dissent, NOT due to any acts of actual terrorism. Simply put, Assata Shakur in no manner embodies or represents a “domestic terrorist.” I previously wrote about the significance and true meaning of Assata’s persecution to provide perspective to this outrageous injustice.

Many authors on this subject have covered this issue far more extensively than myself from the perspectives of feminism,  racism, and Assata herself. I would strongly suggest that you read Assata’s autobiography if you haven’t already, and understand this courageous and intelligent woman for yourself. Please visit the new Facebook page dedicated to Assata Shakur and sign the petition calling for her exoneration. I will conclude this article with a video statement I posted on YouTube earlier today (May 12, 2013):
